15.12.2009 PAM enhances information sharing, transactions and working processes with Affecto solution Service Union United PAM and Affecto Finland Oy have signed an agreement on the renewal of PAM's web solutions and document management. The Union's aim is to promote information sharing and to harmonise working methods within the organisation. Higher degree of refinement of information will also improve the Union's services to its members. "The key word is harmonisation. In the new system we will have one, shared method of storing and finding documents; retrieving them from files or desks takes a lot of time at the moment. We also get new tools for the harmonisation of our working methods and processes. Most likely the biggest benefit is that in the future we can use our time more closely to serve our members," says Jukka Mattila, PAM's Director of Economy. The new eDesktop brings together all the tools necessary in work processes under one user interface and makes it possible to use of meeting spaces. This again facilitates the internal working processes of the organisation with 16 offices in different locations. For example, the methods used in annual planning will now be the same for all. Content and document management system builds up all PAM's documents in one system and makes comprehensive information retrieval possible. Even now PAM can direct its services to different age groups, the unemployed or students on the basis of information in its membership register. In the future, the local branches get an improved view of their own membership registers, so they can develop their services to better meet the needs of smaller target groups. The system will be taken into use in phases in 2010-2011. It will be used by PAM members, personnel and stakeholders. In all, there will be clearly over 200,000 users in the system. Affecto provides PAM with a system based on Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server 2007 software package; it consists of a publishing system for Internet, intranet and extranet pages, eDesktop solution and document management. In addition to this, Affecto's delivery includes consulting and project services as well as the required specifications and customisations of the system. "The selected platform forms a solid technological basis for PAM's objectives of building web services for the foreseeable future and of automating our working processes. For this project we needed a reliable partner with long experience in similar systems. After seeking bids for the system we decided to expand our cooperation with Affecto," says Raili Petra, Head of IT Processing at PAM. Affecto has already provided PAM with e.g. membership register content management system, disagreement handling system and other applications for the Union, and has worked on their long-term development.
