Helping Yle Areena become Europe’s best digital broadcasting service to the Finns

Yle, Finland’s public broadcasting company, operates four TV channels, six radio channels and the online service Yle Areena, which offers the most extensive online selection of TV and radio programs in Finland.

Yle Areena is the most popular online video service in Finland after YouTube with over 30 million plays per month, and reaching 11% of the population every day.

Affecto has been developing and maintaining Yle Areena since 2012. Affecto’s modern development practices have transformed Yle Areena into a user-friendly and scalable service. Yle also benefits from the more rapid time-to-market of new features and functions.

Yle Areena service manager Kari Haakana says:

Affecto has introduced and integrated the Lean philosophy and agile methods into Yle’s development processes. This has made a significant impact on operational efficiency, as well as our ability to respond to changing market needs.

From the consumer’s point of view, the service has seen a major user experience improvement. Consumers enjoy Yle’s content unrestricted by time, place or device. They can watch live shows and get recommendations based on their earlier viewing or listening habits.

The new Yle Areena was launched in 2015. The service is now Finland’s largest online TV and radio content platform. Affecto continues to help Yle meet its goal of providing Europe’s best digital broadcasting service to the Finns.
